Mentors...

Spoke with lady from score on Friday. Their program is for more developed individuals who say... have a business plan already. Or simply have specific questions regarding business already. So, with that alone being said I think Score mentors should be limited to students who show they are ready, and in some cases can be viewed as a goal. The goal: to be developed enough to have reason to reach out to a SCORE mentor.

We have also identified that our mentors must have necessary qualifications considering they will be issuing business advice.

Mentors may also be a tad more than a mentor.... we want to provide the opportunity to lead small groups focused on the mentor's expertise so students can eat away at any questions in that area of expertise they may have.

We have basically narrowed down our possible mentor recruitment pool to 1. Score 2. MU faculty  3. Entre. Board Members 4. Community Members we know/recommended

  1. Currently at the West Chester start-up event. I spoke with a mentor of this program for about half an hour.. I think I got more out of him than any other part of the program!
Out of curiosity I asked if he'd be interested in Mentoring at MU, however he said that was too far for him. It gave me hope, though! One of the men who won yesterday's pitch in this event is part of my group and working with him is like working with a mentor in general. I love it. Now were working with a mentor just with out group.

  2. Ended up winning the conference, how fantastic. The mentors were incredibly important for each and every turnout, I wish they were somehow even more involved.... I guess you cant ask too much!

  3. Today I learned Pete Slaugh is on the board at SCORE. While interested in arranging a mentor of my own, it will now be easier to work with them and a possible connection.

  4. I think we may benefit from creating our own solid group of mentors available for our college students.

My vision is that we acquire a team of 6-10 mentors. They can be recruited from:
    1. the minor board
    2. the community, score
    3. faculty, professors
    4. people who have been involved before, judges, professionals, fire side chatters
    5. Attollo Staff
    6. Graduate students
    7. referrals

It doesn't really matter where the mentors come from as long as theyre credible. The benefits from creating our own inner circle would include consistency, an understanding of the program and what the kids are doing, practical advice, sense of networking, ROI for mentors seeing the kids grow, and convenience.
